I have 2 queries about hdmi connection.
1. Connected windows 11 laptop to tv using hdmi cable, was able to watch movie fine, but small text was showing up distorted. What would cause this?
I'm not sure about the quality of the hdmi cable i'm using, but i'll get another one to check.
2. On a different laptop running on linux mint the tv displayed only the linux mint logo, browser pages would not show up?

Also, is it possible to get sound through tv speakers when connecting from laptop?
Thanks

Edit, just tried again and sound is working now and text is better. Think its the hdmi cable contacts.
will get a new one.
The linux issue still remains

TVs can only show contents at a single resolution, any time something of a different resolution is sent to it it either has to resize it or add borders if it's smaller. Most by default rescale. Some laptops are also a 16:10 ratio rather than the 16:9 of TVs adding more image manipulation being needed by the TV.

If your laptop doesn't do it automatically do it, your best setting the resolution to be exactly what the TV's is and then the TV only has to display and not convert.

On 2, sounds like the laptop is defaulting to extending so the TV is a second screen rather than mirroring the first screen. You either need to drag the window onto the second screen, normally this would be by dragging the window off the right hand side of the laptop screen and you will then see it on the second screen. I haven't used Mint so dont know if it defaults a second monitor into a different position but the mechanism will be the same of dragging it from one to the other just may be off a different edge.

If you go into the display settings you can either change it from extending to mirroring so they both show the same or just change the positioning if you'd rather the screen be off to the left instead etc... its generally easiest to set the relativity in line with the physical positioning
