Old Tesco Credit Card just added to Credit report

On 12th August 2025, I noticed an old Tesco Credit Card was added to my credit report.  I contacted Tesco on 20th August and they have told me there are a lot of old CC's added to peoples credit reports.

I have put in a complaint, but wanted to know (1) if anyone else has had this issue? & (2) what can be done about getting it removed?

Thanks

Who have you raised a complaint with? What's the basis of the complaint?

Did you have a Tesco credit card?

Why is adding the fact that you had a credit card to your credit report a bad thing?

Is any of the information incorrect?
  • I raised a complaint with Tesco as it's affecting my credit score

Yes I had a Tesco CC 5 years ago

As mentioned its affecting my score

Matters stay on your credit report for 6 years so its correct that its on your credit file... what incorrect information are they reporting?
  • My point is it droppped of 4 years ago and suddenly reappeared - Tesco have said this is an issue their end hence raising it on here

It may be "an issue" but is it reporting any information that is factually incorrect?

Not sure that the fact it was removed and then reinstated is a matter for complaint.

Be assured that your "Credit Score" is a number made up by the credit report producer. It is not seen by any provider of credit who might need to see your report. It's designed to make you feel OK about taking out additional credit and products with their partners.

If the card was used within the last 6 years it should be reported on there as it's a factual status of affairs

Your score is a gimmick, nobody but you sees it and it plays no part in any lending decision, ignore it and make sure you don't pay for any service to "improve" the score

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Even MSE have a paragraph about that in their getting a free credit report article. My bold.

It's being used as shorthand for "credit report standing" or "credit-worthiness" but I take your point. There's nothing in the linked article that tells you "how to make the credit score number on the report that Experian (et al) send you go up to 11 (or 999, or 42 or 720).

Maybe need a new descriptor - Credit Score Number?

  • Thanks all for your input - update** I have heard from Tesco and they will have the cancelled credit card removed form my report in 5 weeks. Thanks

"It's being used as shorthand for "credit report standing" or "credit-worthiness""

    Then simply write that. :/
