8 consecutive PCNs - advice please

Hi. Friend's daughter is a student nurse. She is nearly qualified and has almost finished her training hours and has been parking throughout her training in the hospital car park whist on shift. The first time she realised her pass had expired was when she got a PCN through the post, then another etc. 8 in total over consecutive days as per her shifts (one is actually missing in the middle of the time frame, it would have been 9). She's at the very early stages and has contacted the Uni and others to ask for help but although sympathetic, there's not much they can do. They've advised that she appeal in the normal way, and as advised she has appealed each one. She fully accepts she's made the mistake/s, albeit unknowingly. This is a very different instance to my own recent case but wondered if a case like this has been discussed here please, and if anyone can help?

    Which PPC?

All from the past 3 weeks?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The company is APCOA. The notices span from 23/07/25 to 07/08/25, 8 in total although she did park another day but the company say the machine must have missed that one - it's not lost in the post. First one she received was issued on 04/08/25 (arrived after she continued parking until 07/08) hence the lack of correcting her pass mistake - she just hadn't realised it had run out.

APCOA are the easiest PPC to handle. Could we please see a redacted copy of the first NtK - block out all personal details, the car's registration number and any APCOA reference numbers/QR codes. Please leave all dates showing. Front and back please.

Then we'll tell you exactly how to deal with each charge, successfully!
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Christ on a bike! Why are we charging staff to park at their place of work?

    She's already appealed these PCNs:

"and as advised she has appealed each one."

Did she admit to driving and talk about her being a student nurse with an expired permit? We hope not...

Yes - I believe so. The uni advised her as such. She's very young and was doing what she thought was the right thing. Is she scuppered now do you think? She's not even earning a wage yet, what a predicament. From what I understand they are saying, it's 8 x £30 if she pays up within 14 days (on hold now due to appeal), rising to 8 x £60 if not, then I imagine the barage of debt letters and deliberately scary court threats after that.

Nobody has to pay an APCOA PCN. She will never pay.

However, it would have been a cinch to win them all by appealing as the keeper. Such a shame the appeals have been wasted by admitting to driving.

    Are all 8 appeals done?

Just ignore the DRA letters unless she moves house. She needs to open the letters to be sure they are just threatograms. That's all.

Yes all done I'm afraid. I'm grateful again for the advice and will speak with her again today.
