Advice Needed – Bionic / Opus Contract Dispute & Meter Issue

Hi all,

I’m in a dispute with Bionic (broker) and Opus (supplier) about my business energy contract and could do with some advice.

Bionic set me up on a contract based on incorrect information in the national database, which wrongly showed my supply as half-hourly (HH). I only discovered the error through my network operator (SPEN). Because of this, Opus placed me on an HH contract with much higher standing charges, leaving me around £1,000 overbilled.

The database has now been corrected to show it is not a HH meter. However, Opus are still insisting it is HH and refuse to adjust the billing. Both parties are blaming each other:

Bionic say they just relied on the database.

Opus say they’re bound by the data they received and won’t change the charges.

I’ve escalated this to the Ombudsman, but I’d like to know:

Has anyone else had similar issues with wrong meter details in the database?

Who is usually held accountable in cases like this – the broker or the supplier?

With the database now corrected, do I have a strong case to challenge the overbilling?

Any advice or shared experiences would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Wait for the Ombudsman.  I know they can rule on business suppliers (they did for me) but I don't know about brokers.
