Gas still coming out of gas ring (hob) when turned off.

I have noticed that when I turn the gas ring off there is still gas coming out - its registering on my little pen gas detector. Is this normal?
I am using a Rangemaster duel fuel cooker. We are not on mains gas and its calor gas from a bottle outside. The "leak" is coming from all 5 of my gas rings. It is now 30 mins since I turned the gas ring off and the detector is still registering gas. I've had the cooker for about 12 years.
I am going to try the detector again in an hour as I think it may be residual gas - can anyone help?

If it's coming from all rings then that is very worrying, I'm not familiar with Calor systems but it sounds very much like there could be too much pressure arriving at the hob.
Turn off the tank outlet valve and get an engineer as soon as possible.2 -

Too sensitive detector too close to a ring - catching the remaining gas (in the pipe between the valve and the ring) slowly getting out without any pressure?
I'd remove all removable parts from a ring and try detecting a leak (if any) by covering the exposed outlet with washing up liquid foam.
