I bought a freesat from argos, thinking it was freeview, and it was not suitable for purpose, it was for a satellite connection and not a tv ariel connection, and because the outside seal was broken they will not refund?

If you purchased it in store then I am afraid you have no right to a refund. It is fit for the purpose it was made for but not for the purpose you mistakenly purchased it for.2

Buy it in store or online?1

Was the item purchases in store or online?
You have no rights to a refund for an in store purchase unless the item is faulty or not fit for purpose?
It IS entirely fit for purpose but you have purchased the wrong item for your needs, so you cannot return for that reason.
Argos, or any other retailer, will say it was possible to ascertain that you had purchased the incorrect item without having to open the box to inspect the goods.
Goodwill from the store manager is your only bet as far as I can see if it was purchased in store.
