Morning all and thanks @Gers for today's thread start. Today's weather is a repeat of yesterday - cloudy, light breeze and very little (if any) sunshine, with top temps of 19 deg but no rain forecast. When I put out the rubbish yesterday I could feel a little bit of drizzle but it didn't amount to anything. Nights are getting cooler and the sofa throw is now a permanent fixture in the living room.
The washing I did yesterday went on the airer and should be dry now. I decided to clean the WM filter too, one of those overlooked jobs - it was disgusting.Clean now, but I need to make a point of doing it more often. The mac'n cheese was delicious, perked up by the addition of some leeks, shredded ham and chillies; there's a second portion in the freezer for another day. I also made a tub of hummus. The hem of the summer dress didn't get done as the book I'm reading proved far more more alluring.
I have a bag of donations to take to the SA clothing bank today and may as well do my usual top-up shop at the Co-op at the same time. Other "today" jobs are to read/send in the monthly meter readings and wash the sheets/pillow cases I took off the bed yesterday. Such excitement! Good news, TV licensing have confirmed they've sorted out the DDs they've been taking in error and a (small) refund is on its way.
I'm another one who uses custard powder but will own up to having a couple of tins in the emergency store cupboard as well as two tins of rice pudding, again something I usually make myself. All bought when they were on offer. At this time of year I start to buy one or two extra food items every week for the winter food stocks and think this year tins of F&V will be at the top of the list, prompted by reports of probable shortages, thanks to the weather we've had.
@nanny - Your dad sounds just like mine was - stubborn! Have a hug, you need one.
I have my fingers crossed for those waiting for surgery and hope the sleep fairies pay a much needed visit tonight to our sleepless ones. Take care, stay safe and enjoy the day. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
Morning all (just) and thanks for the start @Gers x
UTI Meds are working - have another 3 sachets to get through. I had the added ‘bonus’ of a migraine yesterday so spent all afternoon on the sofa, cooked a quick pasta dish for the family, then went to bed. Such a rubbish night and have only just got up. Now downgraded to a muzzy headache. Was meant to be at the V&A for the Cartier exhibition today but I’m too ill to travel.
Glad that DGD doesn’t have to wait too long for her op @TravellingAbuela and hope all goes to plan tomorrow for DH @RosyRed xx
Have a good day all

Not worth raising my Cortisol Levels for: I don’t particularly like being doorstepped, I dislike being lied to at my doorstep even more. Young doorstepper this morning: We’ve been doing some work in your area, we’ve just finished some work for the man on the corner, Jack. (I’ve lived in this place for 34 years, the only Jack didn’t live on the corner, and died 32 years ago, there is no Jack), you may have seen us advertised on the big billboard at the garage just down there (points in the direction of the open fields and woodland where the nearest garage is seven miles away). We’re just doing some work in the area in that street near hear, Fleet something (nope - no Fleet something near here) [Showed great indignation when I asked if he was in the right place], You’ll have seen the scaffolding up on those houses in that next street there. (My local dog walks which can lead past every house there, near there, and next to there haven’t revealed any scaffolding except the local resident, a double glazer who’s finishing off his own extension build on his house). Are you thinking of updating your double glazing? Me: Do you do those doors that split top half bottom half like a stable door, we’re considering one of those. Bear in mind this young man is speaking to a retired teacher so I read his face and timing when he told me that yes they do. I’ve looked up the leaflet he left, and not they don’t. So why would I continue to deal with a liar?
Back indoors to continue preparing meals that use up the contents of my stuffed freezer, so frugal use of food, frugal “not getting double glazing from a liar”, frugal cutting and twisting liar’s leaflet that he left and putting them in the spill jar for the real fire in autumn = free twisted fire starters.7 -
@Coxy11; that's such rubbish timing! How long before you fly? Hope it's completely cleared up by then and you can enjoy your trip. XX9
