A vent pipe should not be blocked off, ever. You can get simple birdcage affairs that will clip over the top of C.I. pipe. Or with the use of an adaptor, a durgo valve could be fitted.
A birdcage cover would probably do the job if I can find one of the right size.

I cant help on the cap but when we moved in the flexi pipe on our toilet had been eaten by rats. The joy of a house sitting empty for over a year.

Romford, have you actually seen rats come out this pipe?
If so, and you block their exit, where do you reckon they'll choose next?  😟

Well they are getting out somewhere around that area I can hear them at night, and can't see any other holes they could get out.  Have seen about six of these buggers in a group ripping rubish bags apart in the from garden, unbelievably one was the size of a cat, luckily it soon ran away when it saw me.
The ones that were in the garden won’t necessarily live in the sewer. Mostly they nest underneath sheds, decking etc - somewhere dry. They tunnel in all sorts of places, not just sewers.

When you say you can hear them, do you mean in your loft?

No not in the loft.  Where the soil pipe for the toilet is there are two dustbins and a plastic drain cover, I hear them knocking into the dustbins running back and forth.

Can rats really climb up the inside of a vertical pipe? What stops them coming out of the toilet instead of climbing up to the top?
    Presumably the water.
    Rats are good swimmers.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

In that case they’re probably nesting elsewhere and not necessarily coming up the sewer pipes, unless you find they’ve chewed through the plastic gully grid.

    Get a bigger cat.
Mine has no problems catching (small) rats and bringing them in for me.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

My cats are feral, live outside and kill and eat, or feed their kittens on fully grown rats. I've never seen one the size of a fully grown cat, maybe a kitten.

I was reluctant to believe these were actually rats but after putting a message on a local community group it transpired that others around the area have also seen these massive rats, one person had even caught them on their surveilance video.

If he caught them, then how come they are still running around?
