Illness close to boarding

Hi,
We were just about 40 min from boarding when my younger son started to be sick. He had been a bit unwell during the morning but we thought it was that he was tired and hungry. We had a bite to eat at the airport and that seemed to settle his stomach however just before we were due to go to departure gate we had to rush to toilets and he was vomiting. Unfortunately we could not make the flight. Had this happened earlier in the day we may have been able to do something but all we could do was to see our plane go and when we approached the desk to make enquiries we were told that because it was a package holiday we had booked with a company they could not do anything. Once my son felt things had come calm down were escorted out of the airport and eventually we made our way back home. Whilst at the airport I emailed both the travel agents which were blue sea holiday and my insurer but being Saturday late afternoon I only got a reply form Blueses holidays saying it was a 100% loss and to speak to insurer. I am still waiting to hear from insurer. My son is now feeling better but it is the timing when everything went bad that did not give us any time to act. Any advice on this one whilst I wait for the I insurance? Should I call the insurance company rather to wait for their email? I have not phoned the go yet as not too sure what they insurance will need from them and what the go can do about this? Any advice very appreciated. I feel I won’t get anything but I need to try.

The time something similar happened to us we were at the other end, both where the problem is and relative to the holiday. With 40 minutes til boarding I probably would have spoken to the inevitable pharmacy and taken a notable dose of whatever OTC meds they recommend. Whilst onset time for pills isnt instant evidence it was working was sufficient to make the decision to fly even if it was going to be uncomfortable (thankfully the pills worked well and only one toilet visit on the flight). Appreciate on the outwards leg considerations are slightly different.1
