in Credit cards
applied for the interest free card, used it happily for 6 months, then came in an interest charge, when we called and explained, we were told there were no offers on this card and must have been a late payment, although we had paid weekly amounts way over, i tried to check the information on the emails sent, but it says link expired
when i check the previous 6 months there are no charges? has anyone else had similiar?
i have paid what i owe and will close the account, but i feel mislead

jackietog said:applied for the interest free card, ...What does this mean - "interest free"? There are two main types of offers: 0% on balance transfers and 0% on spending. And both are for certain number of months.used it happily for 6 months, then came in an interest charge, when we called and explained, we were told there were no offers on this card and must have been a late payment, although we had paid weekly amounts way over,If you believed it was "interest free", why had you paid "weekly amounts way over". Normally, without any promotions, you have to pay monthly statement balance in full and on time to avoid any interest.i tried to check the information on the emails sent, but it says link expired
when i check the previous 6 months there are no charges?Well, if you paid on time more than you spent there would be no interest regardless of any promotions. What other information was in the emails that didn't expire?Ignoring the promotion, are you sure you understand how credit cards work?

It's normal that promotional rated are dropped if you make a late payment or exceed the credit limit or anything else that breaches the terms. They should be able to pinpoint the issue that caused it if thats what's happened rather than just making an assumption.
Ultimately its possible for them to advertise an offer but when you apply you arent eligible for that offer, if you are still eligible for a different offer or a card without an offer then they may still approve your application but you need to read the terms they are offering and not just blindly click through assuming it must be the one you originally were hoping for.0 -
yes i understand credit cards, and always use the interest free for however months offer, just used for holidays and online purchases for the extra protection, checked my application and i had applied for the interest free offer and not balance transfer offer -there is a part that asks you to tick if you want to do balance transfers and i have ticked no - so yes i was confidant that is what would arrive, no i didnt think that they could send a different product than the one you asked for so lesson learnt0
