Deepest Darkest Devon Debt Decisions

Hi All,

Well this months debt pay down is going to be a disaster , well instead of the 1000 I try to normally pay it will be 425. It is all my own fault. The weather has been nice, I have been busy with my allotment and my side hustle has come way down the list so the available money has also gone down considerably. I am hoping I can make it up a bit in September if the weather changes.

I have Pulmonary Sarcoidosis and I have discovered that if I keep off supermarket fruit and veg my symptoms decrease considerably - hence the going mad with growing. Goodness knows what is in it that makes things worse. I freeze / pickle/ dry everything I grow. Hoping to have enough to get through until March, fingers crossed.

I was hoping to get another card paid off by the end of Oct, but think I am dreaming now and it has really made me feel really annoyed at myself.

Hi, if it doesn't have any cost impact to you (interest) that you haven't made your target this month then I think you shouldn't worry. Your focus has rightly been where it will have the best impact for your health (and potentially your wallet) in the allotment. Take a deep breath and carry on. You will be really happy eating good stuff during the winter. V x

No interest thank goodness. Just had it all planned month by month. Hit target every month since last September :(. I know it won't really impact overall just miffed. Thank you for the encouragement, much appreciated.

Looking at your signature, you've made huge inroads already. Perhaps once the weather changes you could earn a little extra through surveys or something, but in the meantime being out on the allotment growing healthy veg has to be good. For a start, there's the exercise and vitamin D, but also think of the money you will save in future. Are you saving seed as well?

Yes I am saving seeds, hoping it will save money next year on seeds. I have actually managed to get a little enthusiastic with my side hustle today - bought a lot of stuff at auction to sell online but really pleased with my purchases so that should help me sell it :D. It was raining which helped!

Many years ago I used to sell saved seeds online - I don't know what the current regulations are, but I made it clear I couldn't sell abroad as I didn't have the necessary paperwork. I still got enquiries though. I also sold locally (FB marketplace, I think). It just occurred to me that you might be able to benefit from any surplus.

I hope the online sales go well.

That is a good idea, I tend to give seeds to friends, it hadn't entered my head to sell them! My partner is away for a couple of weeks in September - I tend to get a lot more done when that happens, lol.

Right, tomorrow I start my side hustle again, I really need to do this. I can catch up if I work at it this month. Most of my crops have been harvested, I just need to water the polytunnel tomorrow.  I don't go back to work until Wednesday. I can get to the allotment on Monday or Tuesday. It will make me feel better if I concentrate on hustle for a day or so.

I do want to make some pickled cucumbers in between.

    £100 today, yippy. Thanks @Cherryfudge

I have made a load more passata today, in the freezer. Waiting for the melons to ripen in the polytunnel, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas day, they are taking forever.
