2008 Le Mans 24 hr race

Has anybody been in this race before ?

Need some help on how i can book a package holiday to get to watch the race as i would like to surprise my bf for his 40th bday.

I've seen a lot of agents on the web but i wouldn't know what /who is the best to go for. I know that he would enjoy camping near the race track. Was thinking of getting there by car, so which ferry should we take ?

Can anybody help please ?

Thanks in advance.

  • I went in 2006. It great but very tiring. We stayed in the Beausejour campsite near the Porsche curves. It's good but about a 2 mile walk from the main grandstands at the start finish area.

I recommend the Dover-Calais ferry or Eurotunnel. The ferry to Le Havre means a shorter journey in France but it seems to cost so much more. Of course the French autoroutes are great (except for the gap around Rouen).

My mate booked our trip all in through Crystal (part of Thomson).
  • Drove to Loire via Le Mans last year. Go by Speedferries, Dover-Boulogne - good if you book in advance. Avoid Paris and then it's a Very easy drive either by A roads or tolls, but obviously traffic will be busy when 24hrs is on.
We were in Le Mans 2/3weeks before race and couldn't get a hotel room within 10 miles! So book camping, or try Logis de France for some thing nice or the usual chains (accor, etc) for cheaper hotels.
