Morning all - it's a glorious start to the day, it really makes a difference to see sun and blue sky.I've got the bedding in the wash so will hang it out later. Changing the bed led to searching for missing pillow cases which then led to sorting out all the assorted cases, pairing up some and decluttering singles. That then led me to sorting out the pyjamas drawer - so many far too big, some no longer wanted and the few being put back. I've not got a pile of pyjamas for the CS and a smaller pile to take to the textile dumpster. Productive before nine a.m!Hugs all round.14

Good morning ☺️
I have spent a relaxing morning finishing off my book - Unearthed by Joanne Griffiths. That was very good, with a few twists I wasn't expecting. My next book is One False Move by Harlan Coben, which I will start either later this evening, or tomorrow.
My bread rolls turned out well. A Google suggestion was to leave the dough in the fridge for a while after it's first rise, as it would enhance the flavour, so I did that while we were at the ballet performance (which we thoroughly enjoyed). When I took it out, the smell of yeast was strong, so I worried they wouldn't turn out, but I've had the thumbs up, so I'm pleased with that.
A while ago, on the reverse meal planning thread @Suffolk_lass mentioned adding green chillies and gherkins to potato salad, which I tried the other week, and that was also popular, so I'm going to make a big batch today, and take some around to my neighbour. It is very nice with the added extras.
I'm also going to make an apple crumble, with some apples off the tree. We have a glut of them this year, so that will be good.
Dinner will be the usual roast with trimmings - chicken this time, for the meat eaters. I have some Vivera vegan chicken breasts, which I will cook in a vegetable broth.
Other than the time in the kitchen, it's a relatively easy day for me. I don't plan on doing any chores, maybe a bit of pick up and put away. We will see.

Coxy11 said:The photos of the quarry look amazing @themsthebreaks - I really miss hiking. We will hike Mount Reynier in Seattle next week - think DH will be Sasquatch hunting 🤣
I looked at the views you will get to see @Coxy11, and I'm jealous. It looks stunning.

Hope you all have a good day ☺️10 -
Is missing pillowcases one of life's new mysteries GERS? On the recommendation of a DF some years ago I bought 4 silk pillowcases. Despite a search I can now only find one so it's a wash then back on again as I can't believe now how much more expensive they are so I am currently on the hunt for cheaper ones."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Morning all
Nice bright day here and I have washing on the line and another just about to finish. DD has done all her holiday washing so that just needs putting away.
Two weeks today we will be in Skiathos where we will spend a few hours before getting the ferry to ‘our’ island I can’t wait to be back there and see the friends we have made and just relax for two weeks - bliss.
I may do a bit of garden work today the hanging baskets have all but gone now so will sort them out and put them away for next year, some of the actual baskets won’t do another year so will get rid of them and buy new ones.
BBQ for dinner we have some sausages that need cooking so will do them with some savoury rice, I also have some potatoes left from yesterday so will make a potato salad.
My dd uses silk pillow cases they are meant to be much better for your hair, she also wears a silk bonnet 😂 which looks very fetching but stops your hair from frizzing.
Have good days all and take care xx14 -
Morning All
Another fan here of flying saucers. One of my favourites are pear drops but unfortunately one broke one of my back teeth earlier this year so not having very much now.
TA when i wash my bed linen i put one pillow case and duvet inside the other pillowcase as i always seemed to lose one then keep the parcel in drawers under bed. The idea came from Dilly in Sort your life out. Works for me.
Much cooler here yesterday but sun is out this morning. BIL and SIL arriving later not sure how long for..... watch this space.
Sorry bit of brain fog today but hope everyone keeping well hugs to all who want them

Morning all, thanks @Scarlet for today's start. Yesterday's weather was exactly as predicted - cloudy throughout the day with a bit of late evening sunshine, dry and still quite warm. A mainly sunny day is in store today with top temps of 24 deg and a light breeze.
Mission accomplished yesterday. Tool box cleaned out and, although not pristine, is fine for what I need. Soft plastics deposited in SM recycling, milk bought, two books returned and one borrowed. It's another Lee Child one in the Jack Reacher series. I've seen a couple of the films but prefer the books - cute as Tom Cruise may be, he somehow doesn't fit the image I have in my head of how Jack should look!I also treated myself to another bunch of carnations, this time cream with deep pink frilly edges. They last for about three weeks so not too expensive. The new shampoo seems to be OK and has a slight citrus fragrance rather than medicated, but time will tell as to its effectiveness.
When I was a child sweets were still on ration so we tended to go for small ones as it seemed you got more for your pennies - things like dolly mixtures and cherry lips etc. I haven't bought sweets for many years but am partial to a couple of pieces of dark chocolate now and again.
It's Slothful Sunday - no industriousness here today @Coxy!That said, I have two summer dresses I bought earlier in the year to shorten. I have worn them "as is" but I'd be happier with a couple of inches lopped off the length, so that's today's job. Midi length is not midi on me!
Dinner will be a couple of cooked gammon slices from the freezer, baby potatoes, carrots and swede.
@nanny - Your tale of crawling about in one of your Dad's cupboards brought back so many memories of clearing out my late Dad's house when he moved into a nursing home. Although not a hoarder, there was still a mountain of stuff to go through. I still shudder at the almost endless supply of cleaning products and boxes of paper tissues!
@Izzy - I'm glad you're enjoying volunteering and that you're getting out and about more with DH. Congratulations on the football card win too - possibly more funds for trips out?
Have a relaxing and stress-free Sunday, best wishes for a decent night's sleep tonight for the sleepless too. Take care all. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.12 -
My favourite sweet was cherry lips - and frying pan toffee lollies.
Talk of these old fashioned sweets triggered so many memories this morning, as did talk of clearing out deceased parents' home - that brought me a shudder! It's been five years and I still remember the distress it caused me!
Pillow cases seem to be my socks, all of them have pairs. I was thinking of replacing my odds and sods but decided against it. It's only me here and I can live with what I've got.@TA - how's your DGD with the broken ankle doing? The pain should be easing by now so I hope that she's finding it OK to get around.11 -
Morning all, another with a broken nights sleep and I'm aching all over, that'll teach me to go crawling about in cupboards !
Yesterday was a day of sloth as Mr Fix It wasn't very well so he slept a lot in his chair while I read my book Girl in the Walls. It was one that DD had when she ordered a large consignment of fiction books for her book business, but it was too large to fit in the boxes so it's lucky for me because she gave me 20 or more. It's not one that I would have chosen myself but I'm enjoying it.
Today is another sunny and partly cloudy day but the wind is strong so a good day for drying. The wm is on and I've stripped the bed so that'll get done next, should all dry outside.
Gers I too have a lot of "odd" pillowcases and can't find their mates anywhere, I'm hoping they'll turn up sometime.
Have a good Sunday all.
nan xx
