House of Sundar not refunding - legal?

I bought some clothes of house off sundar. Their returns policy I only realised afterwards says it’s store credit or exchange only and pay own return shipping.

they claim it’s because every item is “artisanally” made, which can’t possibly hold up if each item can be ordered 10+ times

is that legal? I thought any company distance selling in the UK must at a minimum allow full refunds within 14 days of purchase if every item is returned?

thanks in advance

You didn't buy from a UK business though, so UK Consumer rights won't apply. Looks like an business based out of Wyoming, USA.

Hand made item, can be made many times, might not all be the exactly the same, but still the same design.

The very essence of globalism, garments made in Jaipur, sold by a company based in Wyoming, shipped to a customer in the UK.

If the company is a UK company based in the UK then yes, they have to comply with UK legislation.

But non-UK companies (eg those based in China or the USA) only have to comply with the relevant laws of the country they are based in.

Best advice before buying anything on the internet is to check where the company is based and what they tell you about your statutory right to cancel a distance contract in the UK.  If they don't mention the right to cancel, be very careful before buying...

NB1  -  the fact a seller has ".uk" in their address does not necessarily mean that have any connection with the UK.

NB2  -  EU countries will have the same consumer protection laws as the UK, but might be difficult to enforce from the UK

Cant remember the last time I drove past cotton fields in the UK?

Even if they were made in the UK on a manual sewing machine and delivered by a chap on a bike you're core raw material is still going to have been shipped from India, US or China

Even our wool industry produces little at the grade required for clothing and much more suited for carpets or insulation.

I think it's more the final air miles involved in your shirt doing a return trans-Atlantic trip because it's the wrong size.

    I was thinking more

made in Jaipur, shipped to Wyoming, & then shipped to a customer in the UK.
Rather than buying from a UK co, where it is just shipped to the UK 🤦‍♀️

The guys I know that have done something similar ship directly from india to the consumer, they dont have a physical store so there is no point moving product to the UK to then ship it out again; most of their customers are in the US but they sell to most places including within india
