Check for tyres with the extra code FR - which means 'Flange Rim' on Continental tyres, or 
FSL on Michelin, or FP on Goodyear.
Lots of low profile tyres have them and it does make a difference.

I had mine refinished about a year ago, not due to kerbing, but because corrosion had got under the factory laquer at the hub and was working its way out from the centre. However because it was surface corrosion they didn't have to take much material off during the diamond re-cut. If they have had to go deep on your first kerbing repair, and then do it again, it could be noticable, or might leave insufficient material on the wheel to be able to do it.

As @Nobbie1967 mentioned, the rim protect tyres, which mine also have, do seem to do a good job of keeping any scuffs away from the rim. 

I got all 4 wheels diamond cut for £280 during a special offer a local place with a great reputation. Almost 18 months on and they still look like new.
I even treat them to a new set of centre caps for a tenner off eBay!
