First image shows part on good side, second shows the other side which has failed, just wondered if anyone knows what the part is and more importantly any ballpark figures of what I can expect to pay for repair (2011 Nissan Qashqai) please?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Your inner driveshaft boot has split.Depending on how long it's been split, the CV joint that it's meant to be protecting could be damaged/contaminated. Probably better to replace the entire driveshaft.A boot kit is about £10, a driveshaft £40-50. A garage will want to replace the whole driveshaft, and it's probably the better option if you're paying to have it done as it'll mean you're not back in a couple of months when the CV joint fails.Maybe an hour of labour on top of the parts, so £200-£250 or so all in?N. Not too bad considering. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
That time depends heavily not having any seized bolts. I suspect a garage would quote for 2 to 3 hours labour to cover for suck problems.1

I seem to think the nearside shaft (front left) is short than the offside (front right).
So the longer offside is usually a little dearer, usually around a third dearer.
It's probably wiser to fit a new complete shaft, not just because of the chance of wear.
The old shaft will have to come apart to get at the split boot, then cleaned and regreased before reassembly which involve labour.
To do this you'd clean, regease and replace the other outer CV boot on the same shaft as well as it's the same age as the old split one, so the cost difference is negligible.
