easyJet cancellation over 14 days in advance

Hi, we had booked flights Belfast to Faro for December, we also had internal flights with another airline the following day to the Azores from Faro for a week. EJ sent an email cancelling the Belfast flight and offering a flight from Belfast via London the day before, coming back also a day early. As we would not have received a refund for the Azores flights or accommodation or car hire already booked, I felt we had no option but to accept. The flights will mean spending a day in Gatwick which will accrue expenses as well as additional accommodation to be booked for a further night in Faro and losing a night at the other side as well as the same position coming home via Gatwick. Our travel insurance doesn't appear to cover having to go on an earlier flight and EJ have failed to respond to a request asking if we are entitled to any compensation. Does anyone know if there is any entitlement? Thanks

you'd be better posting on the overseas holiday and transport board Overseas holidays & travel planning — MoneySavingExpert Forum0

Does Easy Jet allow you to cancel at the point they did?

Does any other airline fly on the correct day? If so, ask EJ to put you on that flight instead: they are obliged to do so.0

Under the regulations (EC/UK261) you're entitled to your choice of refund or rerouting.
Most airlines will only offer their own flights as rerouting, but the regulations don't specify that. I'm your case being different dates and indirect you'd be entitled to ask for flights on another airline (if there are any?)
In practice most airlines will only offer their own services and if you want a different airline you may have to book that and claim the cost back.SpenceR28 said:I felt we had no option but to accept.
If you've already accepted the re-route this may complicate things....0 -
Sounds like you have already accepted the rerouting option.

Reimbursement of expenses would be a different claim but I don't believe that the airline has any liability under these regulations for any of your consequential costs at your destination or even en route at Gatwick.0 -
Thanks for the replies. There is no other airline flying direct on those dates but we can fly from Dublin on the right dates or from Belfast direct the previous day with another airline, either would be preferable. Unfortunately looks like we have shot ourselves in the foot by panicking and taking the re-route option rather than opting for the refund.0
