Item despatched email closely followed by refund email?

Early today I bought an item on ebay paying the listed price (£12ish inc del.). A few hours later I got an item despatched email. Less than 10 minutes later I got an email saying I had been refunded. On checking the listing the price had increased to £22ish. No request to cancel the transaction email received. Surely this is wrong? The item is available from other sellers around the £12 mark.

It’s naughty but realistically nothing you can do about it, buy from one of the other £12 sellers and don’t buy again from original seller.

So I'll be out of pocket 2 x £12 in the meantime and the second item now will likely not be dispatched until Monday and arrive three days later with no consequences for original seller? Buyer protection my bahookie.

why will you be out of pocket if you've been refunded?

Because I haven't yet been refunded and in the meantime have had to pay for the item from another seller.

Report the seller.  If enough people report them when they do this, there will be consequences for them.

Leave them negative feedback, that’s what it’s for.

I can't see what the original seller gains from this.  If they are offering a £12 item for £22, they won't secure orders.

I expect the seller has found they are out of stock hence the refund.

They have increased the price to keep the listing active but stop people buying.

The price will drop back to normal once they have the item back in stock.

Would have been nice if they had sent you an apology though..

Some sellers are a bit odd though, I was looking for an item that had been discontinued. Found an eBay seller showing 5 in stock, purchased 1.
Had a refund (and an apology) as they were not actually in stock and no longer available from the supplier (which I knew)

They didn't cancel the other 4 items and have since sold another one for which they have been left negative feedback. They still show 3 for sale!
