I would return to Ernest Jones and remind them that because your independent repair proves that the work was not carried out with reasonable care and skill, the consumer rights act requires them to repair or replace, not 'half-repair'.
Add that paying for a report shows your determination to pursue them for a satisfactory conclusion, that you expect your report fee to be refunded and if you need to pursue the matter to court they will face even more costs.
