CiD pop up help

Hi all

Having a really annoying problem with these CiD pop ups.....it started when my daughter had to reinstall messenger live. I read somewhere that its a sponsor for messenger so I uninstalled it through add/remove programmes and it did nothing!!
Ive ran my anti virus...which is Avast....still popping up!!
Is this spyware?? And should I install something else to stop it or just take a hammer to the computer?? Its so annoying. Thanks for any advice.

    try using pop up blocker.
if that does not work, install SPYBOT and do a search.

What Albertross says is OK but do NOT use Combofix unless under specific instructions from a trained analyst to do so. CF is a very powerful tool and can trash your computer if used ad lib.

Do the "NoLop" thing, remove Messenger Plus 3! and let us know how you get on.

    Get a HijackThis log

Download Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.2 here ……

    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe

    • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your OWN new thread in this forum NOT back here.

DO NOT use the ”AnalyseThis” button. Its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.

DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System. Someone will guide you on what to do next.

I think its all sorted now!!
I had my pop up blocker on and it didnt work also used spybot and it done nothing.
I came across a forum which had an uninstaller file made by the company which makes CiD ( i hope its all legit and not gonna do more damage and leave viruses etc) and I havent had a pop up since.
Not sure if I can do a link to it as we are not allowed are we?
    Thanks for your help.

@misspointy ... .I'm usually highly suspicious of uninstallers offered by the malware authors but, if it works, well done.

As to posting a direct link in the forum, I don't know but I would like the link.

Please could you PM it to me. I want to investigate further.

    Many thanks.

In the meantime please keep a careful watch on your computer's behavior. As you say ... I hope you don't find yourself worse off than you were before. Let us know if you see anything suspicious.

You might like to download, install & scan with Superantispyware. It's free and is an excellent general malware remover.....

I have also got mine sorted. Went into control panel, add and remove programs, and saw that the live messenger that had been updated had also got sponser CiD installed with it! so removed live messenger and the pop ups have stopped!

Now that's more like how the fix is supposed to work. :D
