British Gas Metric or Imperial bill error

Check your Gas readings against the calculations formula. You may be paying to much!!
IIS THIS ANOTHER HORIZON BLUNDER!!

We recently had a major issue with British Gas . Our bills were excessively high. We were with British Gas from 2021 to 24th April 2025.
I investigated the gas bills on our account from start 2021 to finish 2025.
Fortunately I printed all the bills off as BG updated their system in October 2023 and all previous bills disappeared from our online account.
BG were charging us for our Gas based on Imperial calculations and our meter was metric.
This meant that our gas bills were 2.83 time more expensive.
Calculation formula for gas is :- Gas Units x Calorific Value x Correction figure(1.02264) ÷ KWH Value .
We eventually got agreement from british gas after 6 months of tooing and froing as to wether the calculations were right. This resulted in a £483 refund.
We then switched suppliers 24th April 2025.
We were expecting a transition bill from BG of around £96 for the 4th April to 24th April. Total of 20 days.
We received a bill for £2110? This was clearly wrong. We complained and had to wait once again for over 8 weeks.
BG then came back with a bill of £592.10. This was clearly wrong also. We complained again and they came back saying it was correct and they could offer a reduction of £91.10 as inconvenience payment. This was refused on the grounds if we accepted the inconvenience payment we would therefore have accepted the full bill of £592.10 being correct. It wasn't.

We then contacted the Ombudsman and raised a case with them. Guess what? The response from BG the very next day was that they had £380 from previous billing as credit to switch over and that left £212.10 and they would offer this as an inconvenience payment thus making the bill £0.
I raised this on this forum because I am now concerned that many other people may be getting charged incorrectly for their gas bills due to an error in the British Gas meter reading system.
Is your Gas meter metric?
Are you being charged as having an Imperial meter. 2.83 times more.
If so you could be owed hundreds of pounds.
We settled through the Ombudsman for peace of mind but we are convinced that we are owed money from 2021 to 2023.
We hope this helps. I have an excel spread sheet for anyone who would like to use  to calculate their charges.
If anyone from Martin Lewis's teams would like to discuss this matter as an investigation please do not hesitate to contact me.

It's not another Horizon, no-one is being jailed over this.
It's an uncommon but well understood problem. We get half a dozen cases a year on this forum.

My Excel spreadsheet shows at once any discrepancy between my calculations and my bills.  Last month was a few pence difference, which was reconciled as soon as I updated the calorific value in my formula.  Several years to notice the bills were in cu ft not cu. m?  Why?  I would have been onto them the minute the first erroneous bill landed.  I regard it as my responsibility to check.

Citing this as "Horizon" does discredit to those real victims of scandalous treatment.
