I have had generally positive experiences with Trip.com (who are actually listed on the Nasdaq...). When I wanted to change a flight they wanted a fee that was three times as much as the change fee charged by the airline if you book direct. However, when I was stuck after a flight cancellation they communicated well.

Please note that the question of travel insurance is completely separate from the question of buying air tickets. Your post about both issues simply confuses the issue.

Used Trip.com a few times too without any problems.  On one occasion I did need to query an issue and their support were responsive and helpful, on that occasion it was an airline issue but Trip.com were helpful.

I am thinking of using TRIP.com as I had used it last year same trip  as they had changed the return flight time, so flying back 2 hours early ie departing at 6am. (My frail dad wanted to come to the airport and too early for him) and I was not able to change the flight using this travel insurance (not brought via my bank accounts).

I was told as I have already used the ticket for my outward I cannot change the flight. I have to pay for a new (single) ticket £650  or £600 extra to change.

A 2 hour flight time change wouldn't normally trigger any refund or change rights with any airline and/or agent.  Likewise if wanting to make a passenger requested change after the outward has been flown then those fees quoted were likely airline fees, or the ticket was not changeable.

Thank you for all your replies - I have bought a ticket direct via the airline for about the same price as the agents.  I will look into my travel insurance now.

But the original offer you found was £400 cheaper than booking direct with BA.
So why was it so cheap and how did you find the comparable BA flight?

I think Westin means there must have been some difference between your original 'cheap' flight and the original BA price.
e.g. the 'cheap' price didn't include hold luggage.

I have bought the cheapest ticket by phone to BA  even with  a £10 booking fee (but still the cheapest) not sure why but include hold and 1 pc of bag and a carry on. total 23kg.  I hope this make sense

It seems the BA booking can search on more than one set of date at a time, where as when I did it on the BA website, there is a lot of clicks before I get the final price so it is not as straight forward. But it is the same condition I think I made the booking a day after I had checked online.
