Swift probate turnaround

This may assist others? Applied probate online 30 July. Received email today (13 August) to say it had been granted - just two weeks later. Admittedly they then said it woukd take up to 10 days for the grant docs to arrive by post...

  • Ours went through much quicker than I anticipated - it took one calendar month, submitted in July this year.

The grant of probate arrived 2 days later.

Did either of you use MSE's guide on probate to help with the application process? If so, were there any particular bits you found helpful or that we could expand on?

    Thanks!

It tends to be executors who apply on their own account who achieve a quick grant of probate.

Solicitors don't have a vested interest and know their fees will be paid no matter how long it takes them to obtain probate - one of the reasons the received wisdom here is to DIY probate unless the estate is very complicated.  Hopefully your solicitor is one of the more diligent ones.

MSE - I just used the gov.uk guidance. Pleased to say probate came in post 16 August, so a shade over two weeks from start to finish.

    Thank you for info.

We have been trying to keep the sols on their toes. My FIL and the Sols are both joint executors and he preferred for them to deal with it.

The sols have said they are hopeful for an August response and that is ‘awaiting approval’ but I have no idea if that means it is likely to be soon. Although it’s a fairly straightforward estate.
