Budget washing machines

Living in a high rise flat with no plumbing for a standard washing machine means my laundry goes to the laundrette which can be very expensive. Does anybody have any recommendations for a mini or portable washing machine? I live on my own so I don’t need to do huge washes every week, any ideas appreciated? Thanks

Do you not have a sink?

If you do then you can connect a proper washing machine too. It's better to make a small change to the cold water supply to the sink to properly attach the hose but it's possible to get an adapter to connect to the tap itself. Similarly all washing machines come with an attachment to simply discharge into the sink but its again a simple change to plumb it into the waste under the sink too. Obviously if it's a rental rather than a property you own then you may need the permission of the landlord to modify the piping.

It’s a rental property. I know there are ‘mini’ machines out there but they have mixed reviews with some being much better than others. Just wondered if anyone else on here uses one….

I had a table top one many years ago, but a quick search of the net isn't coming up with the model I had. It was a good little machine and did me a good turn having come from a home where we hand washed everything for the first 25 years of my life I was delighted not to have to do so. The incoming hose was only compatible with a fairly narrow tap. The outgoing hose just pumped into the sink.

We have a portable twin tub that we used in our caravan, try looking at ones for caravans.  It spun well, but it would probably struggle with sheets, duvet covers or large towels.
  • Similar advice to @jennifernil : we have a holiday home in Spain and use a twin tub, as we rely on solar electricity and water from an underfloor deposit (filled occasionally by tanker).  We have a Costway (8kg capacity) but there are others similar sold by Amazon.  Uses minimum water and power (if you are paying for either/both).  We wash towels, sheets and duvet covers, but line-dry everything outdoors, so more spinning required if that's not possible for you.

It’s only really jeans, joggers, shirts, underwear etc that I’ll wash with whatever I buy and as it’s just me it won’t be a heavy load, will have a look at caravan washers

If you search for table top washing machine on ebay, there's quite a selection on there

Getting the plumping changed to accommodate a standard washing machine is not usually a complicated job.

If your landlord is a HA or similar approach them and ask if they will do it.It seems to me that under the fit for habitation, disposal of waste water requirements that it is something they would do.

If it is a private landlord only you can judge if it is worth approaching them.
