Ebay

Hello I hope someone can give me advice. So I decided I would like to collect watches, a few months ago I bought a tag off a dealer on eBay he had 11 watches for sale at the time. All with box’s and papers. So I bought this watch £750. I’m on a group on facebook that I recently found with jewellers that sell watches and I put my watch up to show them, a person commented they have the same watch mine is in a tag box with a white lining and apparently that watch comes with a black lining. So I searched online and the only one I can find the same as mine that has a white lining is from china. I know nothing about watches but am worried now.. it’s will cost me money to money to get the watch checked now for authenticity.. eBay said because it’s passed 30 days I can’t do anything. I’m in and out of hospital reg due to severe illness and the watch wasn’t my first priority at that time.  So what can I actually do now please thanks everyone

As far as ebay is concerned there is nothing you can do. As for other routes, then 'believing' it to be fake is not the same as knowing it to be fake , to take this further legally you would need some sort of proper declaration from a jeweller or from Tag themselves stating it is a fake. If you got that *and* have the sellers geographic address then you have the small claims option.

It would also need a screen shot at least of the item you bought with the description to avoid any nonsense with seller claiming it isn't the watch they sold you.

Can your watch group assist in finding a competitively priced expert that can provide the documentation you need, and do you have the sellers information? If they are still selling, and assuming they are a business then any current listings will show their geographic address under business details.

Out of interest, when you bought did the seller have any history (using feedback) of selling watches, and did the feedback suggest any issues with authenticity?

Yes the seller had 145 feedback. He isn’t listed as a dealer but was selling high end watches and great feedback results. The watch probably is genuine but I’m not to know but I’m sure the box isn’t original witch makes the value of the watch actually less then it should have been in my opinion  but had a company name

Then the next question would be was it specifically sold as being in original box, or just ‘boxed’.

If you paid by card you could try a chargeback with your card provider but it will probably be best to ensure the watch has something wrong with it before doing so.
