I have Windows 10 and Microsoft Office Home and Student 2016. Office was installed by Dell when I purchased a Dell laptop. I know its old.
Two days ago, all of a sudden, I couldn't open any Office documents? I have no idea why? Have Microsoft suddenly updated something? I am not sure what to do? I have tried to repair Office but I'm getting Error Codes. Now when I go to open an Office file it says I need to purchase a new app from the Microsoft Store?? Has anyone else had problems?
I am thinking of downloading LibreOffice because I can't open any files.
Any suggestions would be welcome please.
Thank you in advance.

It would help to have more information. For example,
What exactly happens when you try to open an office file?
Are you using File>Open in the app or double clicking on the file you want to open.
What exactly do any error messages say?

If Windows is trying to open files in “Office from Microsoft Store” instead of your installed Office, right-click a .docx file →
Open with
→Choose another app
→ pick Word 2016, tick “Always use this app”.2 -
So a little more information
This is the original message I got when I tried to open any word, excel document:
'c:/program files (x86)Microsoft Office\root\office16\AppVlsvSubsystems32.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Error status Oxc000012f. ExcelEXE - Bad image'
So I tried to Repair Microsoft Office and got Error code 30015-13 (193). Then tried to do a Repair via Internet and got Error 30053 - 44.
Now it is asking me to use an App on the Microsoft Store.
So I tried to do what Vitor said - right-click a docx file - open with - I clicked More Apps - Microsoft Office isn't coming up? So clicked 'Look for another App on this PC' - so it takes me into Program Files and all I can see is Microsoft Office 15?? I don't know what is going on? Help!!0 -
Oh dear. Where to go next depends on whether you have the Office 2016 license key and/or if the licence was tied to the Microsoft account used during original activation. If you login to https://account.microsoft.com/services, look for Office 2016 and there should be a link to download the installer. If so, I'd check Windows isn't itself corrupted. From an administrator-level command prompt, run
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
thensfc /scannow
and reboot the machine. After that fully, uninstall Office 2016 (in fact all versions of Office to be found on the machine) and then run the downloaded Office 2016 installer.1 -
If you don’t have the original license key, there are some license key finders available. GIYF. Do this before uninstalling office.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

If you have a Microsoft licence, then it will show up there and you will be able to click on the "install apps" icon to install office again.
Else it will be blank and your licence has expired. .
