Transferred money on day Natwest account was closed.

So I transferred money on the day my Natwest account was closed. I didn't know about it closing, they sent the letter but I was staying somewhere else for the first half of the year.
It was literally on the day the account was closed. Because the day before I accessed my account on my mobile app.
After finally getting through to the right department I was told that they could try and restart the closure process and that would take 2 days,
Today, 1 day later because i'm running out of money, I called and asked for an update but also had the thought to ask if the money transferred yesterday was there and was told "no" after digging around through various departments I found out it was put through a holding process for manual review and return as my account can no longer have money deposited or exited. I was told the process can take a few days but that was the ladies opinion she did say the notes didn't give a time frame.
Anyone knows what this means, how long it usually takes to receive the money and what my chances are of getting the money? Yes the account was closed for debts

If this means that you owed them money then chances are they'll retain anything you paid in, or did the payment exceed your overdraft?ColdPizza said:the account was closed for debts
Not sure, I owe in loans and an overdraft on a different Natwest account. That account was closed down before and I could not access it. This was the only account I had access to and it has no overdraft. The final person I spoke to who told me about the transferred money being sent to a different department for processing to return said it usually takes few days to be returned to the sending account.
This is my concern, every department I have spoken to has told me I would be able to access funds or the money transferred would be sent back, I told them the urgency of the situation as the money is all I have for the next month and I only transferred so I could use google pay and limit the amount of things I carried in my pocket during this hot weather ( My hot weather trousers have trousers where things easily fall out, a phone is more noticeable).
If they decide to keep it is there an emergency/hardship claim I can make? Besides not knowing my account was being closed, granted no there fault, for two days now I have been led to believe that I will be receiving the money.0 -
It sounds like a more complicated situation than was initially apparent - they previously closed an overdrawn account while allowing another to stay open? And have the loans defaulted?
Ultimately you're going to be in their hands, but if you transferred money into NatWest from another account, do you have access to overdraft facilities there?1 -
Just spoken to the closing department after typing my last message. Now I have been told, "the transfer has managed to go in somehow" he said he would escalate it with the letter reopening team so I can have access to it as soon as possible, should be an update by tomorrow.eskbanker said:It sounds like a more complicated situation than was initially apparent - they previously closed an overdrawn account while allowing another to stay open? I am not sure why the lady I spoke to before, from a different department, told me the money was in a different department waiting to be manually processed and returned to the sending account. Only thing I can think of is that at the time the letter reopening process was at a different stage? Anyways who knows, can only wait until tomorrow now and hope for the best.0 -
I know the last update was good and hopefully it work out like the last advisor said. But just in case does anyone have any advice? Its the only money I have for the next month and genuinely starting to get worried about foodColdPizza said:

If NatWest decide to regard the payment as repayment of a debt then I don't believe you'd have any grounds to insist on borrowing any of it back again, hence my suggestion above of approaching the bank from which you transferred the money into NatWest, which is presumably where your salary or benefits are paid?ColdPizza said:

update.. today I logged onto the app and to my surprise and absolute delight it allowed me to log in, after resetting biometrics, I was able to access the money that was transferred on Monday. That's a huge relief as can get by for the next month.eskbanker said:

I would suggest taking the money out of Natwest ASAP, and using a bank who you don't owe money to. In the short term it would be wise to withdraw the money you need as cash if you don't have another account to transfer it to.ColdPizza said:
