My Son has been deemed as not having capacity around finances by his Social Worker. She has asked me to become his Appointee for Benefits.
She has rang DWP and they will not speak with her as my Son was not present. I have rang them and been told the same. He is on Universal Credit so have left a message in his journal, no rely from them. Any ideas how I can move forward with this and get a dialogue going and appointment made?

How was the claim made in the first place if he doesn’t have capacity? Or was it was it when he was under 18.
You need to phone and say he needs an appointee and ask what the process is. They will need to see him at some point to confirm that he can’t manage his finances himself.
I wonder what the social worker is saying to them because under GDPR they can’t disclose information, but you’re not asking them to disclose anything. You are asking them to put their Which is why they have the appointee process in the first place.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Normally the process for arranging personal appointee is a home visit to the claimant, where both the claimant and appointee have to be present with their ID documents. And the home visiting officer completes the DWP documents required to enable the local Job Centre to add the appointee formally to DWP benefit records.
So you need to make the request to have an appointee and for a home visit to be arranged to enable this. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.2 -
I speak on the phone to dwp for 2 family members, they phone, go through security then say they want me to speak to them. Does your son have capacity to do that?0

UC sent an appointment for my sister because of the UC, I explained on the journal she does not have capacity.
The lady at the Jobcentre actually rang rather than message on the journal. I explained everything and she explained that we could have a visit but they are very busy at the moment so could have a long wait, but she could do it for us at the appointment. She said it would be easier for me to be the appointee as mum does not have the Internet etc.
I took my mum and sister with me, plus our ID's anx I completed the paperwork it took about 20 minutes. So it worked out very well.
I have checked GOV.UK and it states you can request on the journal or call the UC helpline: 0800 328 5644. Link below.
