Fixing Gazebo to raised patio

Options
I'd be grateful for advice on how to attach a gazebo to my patio.

Patio is paved with 600x600x35mm sandstone pavers. Underneath these is 80-100mm compacted sand/gravel and under that is spoil, mostly bricks.

What would be the best method of securing the gazebo?

I'm also thinking of putting a roof on the gazebo which would presumably increase potential loads?

I don't think the load is as much of a potential issue as high winds trying to lift the whole thing.

Sorry, that was what I meant.
  • You could bolt it down with rawlbolts if there are holes in the feet of the gazebo.

Sandstone is pretty soft and easy to drill with a masonry bit.

Would it be possible to install the upright posts outwith the footprint of the patio and have the cross members straddle the patio area.
If so there are many secure ways to fit upright posts.

Thanks, I was unsure if having a roof would be too much for the pavers.

I was thinking of pouring concrete pads for the gazebo feet but given what's under the pavers I didn't know if that would work.

Thanks Eldi_Dos. I had considered that but there's a 450mm drop and I couldn't find any style of gazebo that is sufficiently tall as it needs to be 2400mm tall from the patio for back door clearance.

So 2850mm total height if I do it that way.

Remember if any of the gazebo is within 2 metres of a boundry you are restricted to a maximum height of 2.5 mts, and I would read that from natural ground level rather than top surface of patio. It would be worth seeking clarity on that before work is done.
Could you explain the 450mm drop as I am finding it hard to envisage.

Hi @Eldi_Dos, the patio is contained by a retaining wall on 3 sides built to a height of approx 450mm, and the house on the 4th side.

I'll check re the height and distance to boundaries, thanks for the heads-up.

Take the pavers out where the feet will be, dig out and put some concrete down. Then rawlbolt into the concrete.

Would a Cantilever Parasol suit, to provide shade on the patio?
