Smart Meter - no thanks!

Hello forumites.
I am due to move into a new place, which was I believe was previously housing association.
Looks as though it has pre-pay gas/elec meters (or at least some sort of "not very" smart meter).
I have zero confidence in so called "smart" meters, which appear to have caused nothing but problems since day one.
Can I insist on my provider removing "un smart" meters and replacing them with a good old fashioned "it works" meter?
Yes, I might end up paying a little more and having to submit readings, but until I have some reassurance in them, I don't want them.
Thank-you for your advice.

Sorry, the answer is no you can't. You may have come to believe that smart meters cause problems but the vast majority of those problems arise when they fail to communicate. If you do end up with a smart meter that does not communicate, then you have to record the readings and send them in yourself, just as you want to.Reed2

I took a new tariff with my provider where I am suspposed to get a smart meter but just delayed and put them off fitting it .
This could depend on your provider but some of the dribble posted on here regarding "you must have a smart meter " is personal opinion........ its not fact nation wide not yet anyway.1 -
All meters have a fixed life span, so in the not too distant future all installed meters will be of the smart variety.2

Of course, if there is no pressing need to fit a new meter in a particular case then the suppliers will be focusing their meter fitting efforts on those people who do have a pressing need for a new meter (probably still mopping up RTS meters at the moment).
One day a smart meter will be fitted, it is just a matter of when.

Does it need a new meter?
The house I bought the previous owners used a pre paid is PAYG key which was in fact a USB that plugged into a normal meter.
Actually the rate was pretty good on that but a pain being limited to only a set amount each top up.
I just phoned and said I wanted to go on normal billing and I think they just set that up remotely. I didn't have knowledge of anyone coming and doing the switch manually
I've got a smart meter for electric. I was very reluctant but so far it's a blessing.
British gas do quarterly billing too if you find that convenientI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

Boohoo, you bunch of horrid people, I only got 6 hours of free leccy yesterday, will have to wait a few days for my smart meter to send the details back to EDF to find how much I saved.
Damn, I said MY smart meter, it's not, it belongs to my supplier just like all the others and even though it is still smart it will get replaced at the end of its working like.
@Davesquire get smart!
