I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

The situation with the 70+ licence renewal has been around for a while. But the tests are well known and  shouldn't be an issue.

Presumably as you have a paper licence you've not moved house in the best part of 30 years?

Thank you. The rule change starts this month. Yes, I have lived in the same house for 30 years, and I haven't had any endorsements since I was 17 when I had my only collision. I previously had the little red licence when I was 17.

I thought D4 was a bus or lorry  / class 2 ? have they changed that?

I used to do HGV medicals - they were quite time consuming and we charged a fee. The system would collapse if all 70 year olds needed one.

Don't believe everything copilot tells you

Coincidentally, it seems there are plans for compulsory eye tests for over-70 driving licence renewals:
Motorists over 70 could be banned from the roads if they fail compulsory eye tests, as part of a radical shake-up of driving laws in England and Wales.
Plans also include reducing the drink-driving limit in both countries to be in line with Scotland's laws, and introducing penalty points for passengers not wearing a seatbelt.
The move comes after an inquest into four deaths caused by drivers with failing eyesight saw a coroner call the UK's licensing system the "laxest in Europe".
The changes are expected to be included in a new road safety strategy set to be published by the government in the autumn, with ministers believing that the current safety messaging is not working.

Apparently you should be OK if you are long or short sighted as glasses can easily correct this. Also OK if you are colour blind. They are really looking to stop people driving who have serious eyesight/disease, which makes sense for the driver and the rest of us.

I think they're also trying to ensure that prescriptions for glasses etc., are up to date and that those who should now be wearing glasses (who didn't need them before) are aware of this requirement.

Eyesight deterioration can be gradual, so you don't realise it's much worse than it was for quite a while.
