Santander on-line banking have started sending verification details to log on to my mobile banking app which means that I need phone and laptop with me to use on-line bankig.I prefer to use the laptop because of "fat finger syndrome" ,but referencing both is inconvenient and damned annoying.
Surely they can come up with a better security system than this, any suggestions for a resolution ?

Theory has it that there are three types of authentication:- A thing you know (like a password)- A thing you have (like a phone)- A thing you are (like a fingerprint)Two factor authentication should use two different ones from the list. So Santander have your password (for the website) plus your phone app (either the phone itself, or the fingerprint you use to unlock it).In print, I guess you could add a fingerprint reader to your laptop, but I don't know if Santander would support that.N. If you have an android phone then use SMS verification and access your text messages on the laptop with https://messages.google.com/web/conversations2

All banks are obliged to follow the EU’s Payment Services Directive 2, two factor authentication is not something Santander can just “turn off”. Banks are legally required to make reasonable adjustments for accessibility needs. If poor dexterity is the reason for preferring the laptop, they may have alternative authentication tools so best contact them direct.

I have the Santander banking app on my iPhone, very quick and easy as I use facial recognition to open it and also to confirm any on-line payment.
It couldn’t be easier, I don’t bother logging on with a laptop/PC as I can easily do everything on my phone0 -
The next step on this progression will be using your mobile phone banking app to scan a QR code on the bank website login page, alongside using your biometrics, user ID and security code.0

OP, one way around fat finger syndrome is to use a phone stylus. Very cheap and plentiful out there.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

The fraud / security departments of two major banks have both advised me to use their mobile phone apps rather than via a web browser on a computer. There are less variables plus, as the banks themselves produce the apps the responsibility it theirs to ensure it will only run on an up to date enough version of the operating system.1

OP doesn't mention which mobi he has but both iOS and Android have numerous features to assist with accessibility and dexterity. I always switch off transparency, reduce animations, circle buttons etc. but you can also tune to ignore repeated touches within a set interval, set a minimum tap duration etc.
