Any experiences on car damage like this? Hire car through insurance has had paint peeled!
I picked up a hire car on Thursday evening, and this afternoon I noticed this damage to the rear passenger side. I can't be 100% certain it wasn't there before, but I suspect it wasn't as I did look around the car prior to accepting it admittedly the garage was very dark and the car was parked close to another van making this harder. The car was from enterprise. I didn't take the waiver, and it's on my own insurance as my car is currently in for repairs after damage.
Anyway, I saw it this afternoon and am aghast as to how this has happened. The car has been used twice, and both times with no known incident. Both times it was parked up in a disabled bay so unlikely to be typical car park damage. I can't understand what has happened though. I've never seen damage like this.
My questions are a) what could have caused this b) my husband thinks it's a previous repair that the paint hasn't bonded to the primer. Could this be the case? And c) how will Enterprise treat this? If you use their golf ball damage estimator, both areas are smaller than a golf ball, but will they try and say both areas need to be in the golf ball estimator? Will they allow me to pay for the respray rather than claim on my insurance?
Of course I noticed this at 2pm Saturday, which is when they closed! Not open tol 8am Monday when I plan to drive down and show them. So if anyone can help in the meanwhile, that'd be great!

No idea what caused it, but I'd be out with the black shoe polish before taking it back,0

I'm no expert but looks like it was (badly) repaired before Look to the right of the second white area on the first pic looks like it's been resprayed.

I had an Enterprise hire car following an accident and they didn't really inspect it that closely, despite the stories I've heard. I've found a black marker pen is good at hiding marks like this. You could try the boot polish or just dab on a bit of black paint and I doubt it will be noticeable on a quick walk around. In the unlikely event they do spot it, just act daft.

I have come across damage like this when a car has been jet washed.0

Are you sure it isn't on top of the paint rather than damage to the paintwork?0
