Hi All

My disabled mother was recently out shopping with a family member and they overstayed a 2 hour free parking at a retail park.

They've now received a parking ticket for the great sum of £100 - discounted to £60 if paid within 28 days (oh do one).

Obviously not going to pay it...

But for the avoidance of doubt, what should be my first step here?

I've contacted the retailer who said they are unable to help.... should I appeal this ticket or ignore?

Do UKCPM take anyone to court or will they'll eventually give up and forget their attempt at scamming my family for the sum of £60?

Thank you.

First step   ?  Plan A in the newbies sticky thread in announcements,  complaining about it to the retail park management company or landlord  ( not the retailer   )

I doubt that the pcn is £60, the base charge will be £100

Of course they sue victims,  as do a lot of these private parking companies

They do sometimes do court through BW Legal or Gladstones. But their court claim doesn't utilise the POF Act.

Would be useful if the keeper and driver were different.

Complain robustly to the retail park property agent who runs the place, with evidence of disability / blue badge and say their agent is breaching the Equality Act 2010 by failing to allow more time. This is indirect discrimination and the charge must be cancelled.

Here's a correct BBC news article confirming this fact, in the same year the EA replaced the old DDA mentioned here:

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
