Probably a really bad idea asking this question on money saving expert …..

so the advice is don’t trust anyone  claimed ing to be a professional, write it  on the back of a cigarette packet , put it in the wardrobe and execute it ourselves ?

I’m confused by responses, lots of cynicism but not much actual advice on what to do
See https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6623311/will-being-contested#latest for latest thread of the problems caused by a will writer - and yes, solicitors can also cause problems, but with a solicitor you have legal comeback if they do something wrong.

If you're dead, how do you execute your own will? One of you can do the other - but what about if you die together? Or what does the survivor do?

Thanks all for the feedback, done a bit more research and we’ve decided to just get the pack from the post office no need for a will writer & no need for solicitor in this case as it’s very very simple.

Will to be stored with the person in a place that is known to executors, no need for paid storage.

just one question though is it possible to make duplicate copies and store with the executors as a backup ? if so, can they be photocopies or do we need to literally do multiple identical copies   by hand

The greatest prediction of your future is your daily actions.

Whilst you're using the pack, do be sure to replace it with proper solicitor drafted wills on your return. Hopefully you have an appointment booked.

You need to have an original will (or go through a tedious process if you lose it but have a copy). In theory you can sign several ones (not normal to do so at all though). Make sure they're identical as technically you revoke the last one you signed every time you sign another - you don't want anyone having to figure out which was actually your last Will.

Make one will using the pack. Ensure that it is witnessed and signed correctly. Photocopy it. Write on each page of each copy: “I certify this is a true and complete copy of the corresponding page of my will.” Sign and date each page.

It is advisable to have your will done properly at a solicitor. Too easy to make errors.

So basically you will be making a will that produces the same result as intestacy.
