Charged Twice

I went to a multi-story in wokingham. There is no ticket given on entry. You need to "check in" and "check out" when you come back. All good when I checked in -just needed payment card and entered car reg. Then I got the ticket.

When I came back and tried to check out it said to put my payment card in and then asked me to type in my car reg again. Finally it asked for my payment card a second time and issued another ticket.

Instead of checking me out, I think it actually checked me in so I went back to the machine at some inconvenience and presented my payment card yet again. It then clearly said "thank you for checking out".

To confirm I think it was the "check in" that went wrong.

Its for a very small amount but its annoying they can do this.

I went to their website to try and appeal but it says you need a PCN number which I don't have. DO I have to send them a letter before action in order for them to consider this? Its bloody annoying but such a small amount I suspect most people would not bother trying to claim it.

Any thoughts gratefully received .

All private parking firms have a complaints policy. Use that door instead.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You could try using your bank's reclaim process.

    Is this the car park?

    https://www.wokingham.gov.uk/parking-and-transport/parking-and-permits/car-park-payment-machines

If so, they give a few phone numbers to call if you have problems.

Sooo... do you think councils have no complaints procedure?
    1/ I didn't think I'd said anything unfriendly ?
2/ You said "all private firms" and I thought you said that for a reason.
3/ As I said in my OP, the council's website is geared up to deal with parking tickets.

I think I'll leave it. The council needs the money...

P.S. Chargeback is a good idea as its easy.

It specifically states NOT to input your VRM again: -
    Wokingham Council logo
To check out you can use any payment machine in the same car park
    Don't re-enter your vehicle registration

The machine asked me to do so once I had offered up my payment card.
