Following on from my other posts about my recent claim.

I have a Multi Car Policy with Admiral. My claim is non fault and on exchanging messages the operator said the claim won't affect my No Claims. I reply no, it won't as it is protected. Turns out, that car is not protected. So went on this morning to protect my No Claims for the rest of my policy. Reply I got it that I cannot protect NCB until I have four years! Is this usual for insurers?

Yes, most Motor insurers only allow you to protect 4+ years

You have seen Admiral's NCD scale haven't you? https://www.admiral.com/magazine/guides/car-insurance/how-the-no-claims-bonus-works

So 1-4 years is on average a 17% discount, why would you pay for NCDP on 3 years NCD given the consequences of a fault claim would be dropping to 1 years NCD at which point you still have a 17% discount?

With their scale its probably questionable on buying it any time before year 7-8

We used to charge 7.5% for NCDP so buying protection wiped out nearly half of the discount too
