Afriend sold a jointly owned house when her husband had already moved abroad  for work.

He signed a POA for the solicitor to act on his behalf  him in the sale as he would not be in UK to sign documents.

Your solicitor can comlete exchange and completion when you are abroad if you give them authority.

Asking for more money at this stage is more likely to result in your buyer pulling out

You might have the property empty and be be liable for bills whilst you are away and not able to keep am eye on the situation
  • Being abroad surely doesn't change anything, I signed the contracts weeks in advance and when there was a change the solicitor hand amended it, she phoned on the day the seller decided to exchange just to get confirmation I was happy to proceed. I didn't need to physically be there or do anything.

Also our delays where due to council backlogs over the holidays, nothing to do with me or seller or solicitors not doing our parts. We literally couldn't go any faster.

My main concern is that I do not have a stand in person if needed while I am away and very unlikely to have  internet access for what I need so I cannot check the funds / payment etc till I am back.

Thanks for the reminder that the buyer may pull out.  Either way the property will be left empty and bills when I am away hence I was hoping to get it Completed before then (aware of the process).

Where are you going that you won’t have internet access? Get a local SIM and take a smart phone and you’ll have access even if you’re camping (unless you’re totally in the wilderness).

Appreciate this - is China, not in a modern town or city and I do not know the language, either.

But it is a town? Not the wilderness with no signal? You should be fine I’ve just done a quick google search and there are many companies selling SIM cards for travellers in China. And you can access everything in English so no language issues. With a little effort these issues are easily resolved
