Junior is having driving lessons. He was thinking of taking out insurance with Marmalade. Are there any drawbacks/problems in doing this? Will I need to insure my main insurer (LV) ?

Is this for their own car or driving yours?
Haven't looked at Marmalade for a while but certainly they used to do both full policies and top up policies. With the later the car needs insurance elsewhere too as the top up only covers the car whilst in the control of the young driver and not when parked up or being driven by others etc.0 -

Marmalade provide fully comprehesive insurance for the learner driver whilst under instruction, this policy sits outside of the main policy for the vehicle.
We used it when our daughter was learning as it was very cost effective. She didn't have an accident so no idea what any claim process would be like.0 -
LV would not add my daughter as a named driver. She had add on policies from Marmalade for learning and her first year as a qualified driver, then I switched policies to Ford Insure (Admiral Group) as they would cover her at a reasonable price.0
