Freehold isn't due to solicitors mistake

I'm in the process of selling my house, it turns out my house is registered as leasehold, but was bought freehold. This is what the landregistry is recorded. We have contacted the solicitors who represented me at the time , and they say they don't hold records past 6 years. My solicitors who represent me now are preparing a statement of trust stating the previous owners gave up there right to live there as they have not approached me nor lived there.
I have the original sales particulars from the estate agent at the time and there is no mention of leasehold.
Also I've paid the mortgage off, but I was given a mortgage when there was 59 years left on it, according to my research banks don't mortgage properties with less than 80 years on it. Also the bank says it was sold as freehold. And local government has it registered as freehold.
My concern is ,
1 I have to buy the lease off the original owners?,
2 what if they refuse to sell the lease?
So, what should I do next and what are my options?

So who owns the freehold?2

When you bought the house, did you have to sign a lease with the freeholder? Who do you pay ground rent to? So far it sounds like the property is freehold and that there's a mistake in the land registry.1

If you currently have solicitors representing you, why can't they answer your questions?2 -
