I think it probably depends what you mean by cheap, and also what do you want your fitness watch to do because they go from a basic step counter to ones that have GPS, log cardio et cetera.

Indeed, I love my Garmin Fenix, but that isn't cheap.

OP What are you looking for the watch to track? Steps? Running? Swimming? Gym equipment? Yoga? And what's your budget?

Mostly steps, running, any kind of sports. I don't want to buy an Apple watch, too expensive. Budget don't know exactly yet, but surely not an Apple

An Apple Series 10 is £299
A Garmin multi sport Instinct E is £259

The cheapest Garmin is a Forerunner 55 at £180.

I have a Garmin Fenix, one of those starts at around £600, but most of them are in the £700 - £800 range.

There are capable Garmin fitness watches far less than that.

Look on eBay. I got a new Fitbit versa 3 for about £75. They did then do an upgrade which reduce the battery life but it still lasted long enough for me and I got $50 compensation so I’m not feeling out-of-pocket at all.

Works fine with my iPhone SE.  You can add Apple wallet to it if you want to, Spotify, messages etc.

It does have GPS, but the people I know who are really into running or cycling tend to use their phones with Strava on for that anyway.

It’s got a lot of features on that I don’t use around diet, et cetera. There is a paid subscription they want you to sign up to but just for basic step counting and exercise levels then you don’t need to pay the extra.

I used the prices new off the Garmin website and Apple website, older models of Garmin's and Apple watches will be cheaper if the OP wants to look around.

I'm really not clear what level of detail the OP might want. A basic step counter is super cheap, but if they want something that will log pool laps, sleep, heart rate during multiple types of exercise, GPS etc, the price goes up.

I had a Fitbit for 3 and 1/2 years including when it became part of Google and some features were lost and the app was changed (all for the worse) there were many comments on the Fitbit forum how this was a downgrade and almost none in favour of it. About 6 weeks ago as the display started to fail on the Fitbit, I got a new tracker from  Amazon - it's easier to fit in it's charging cradle, a charge lasts weeks not days, measurements are comparable with the Fitbit ones and cost was £9.99. (The Fitbit was a band the new device is much more watch looking).
