Hey.. i have posted about a problem i had with the buyer just before xmas.. i sold a laptop and he emailed me saying it didnt work, a little bit later that day i received another email saying it was his fault, the battery wasn't connected properly.
Today i receive this email
Hi Nicki, I won't bore you with the details, but the verdict regarding the laptop is that the battery is shagged, It ran for a couple of days on and off with the charger in permanently but even then would frequently shut itself off, it has now stopped working altogether.
As you can imagine I am not amused. I am emailing you first rather than going through ebay to offer you the opportunity to refund me without affecting your ebay account, if its necessary I am perfectly happy to send the laptop back to you to confirm that I'm not lying. If however I have not heard from you within a week I shall have no choice but to take action via ebay and paypal.
What can i do???
Are auctions sold as seen??? Would paypal go with the buyer???
The item WAS working until today, so he has had it 2 weeks

Not sure what ebay or Paypal would say but I think 2 weeks is long enough to test a laptop. I do not think he has a case for a refund.
Good luck.

It depends - how you described the item - do u have a link to the listing ?0 -
Tricky one really, I think it depends on the wording of the item to be honest and not the time scale.
I think we definatly need a link to the item.
Edit : posted at the same time as the linkThe only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

Hmm you did not state sold as seen and said it is in perfect working order, however you did not supply the PSU and if he has used the incorrect one he would have damaged the battery.
I suppose it is up to you but look at this feed back that was left for himNot to good with computers.Trashed part and tried to blame me.Beware if Bidding!kineticrecords ( 209

how soon did the buyer contact you after receiving the laptop ?0
-
he contacted me the same day to say the laptop wasnt working.. but then got back in touch a couple hours later to say ignore the last email, the battery wasn't put in properly, thats why i didnt work..
today is the first time i have heard anything since the day he received the laptop.. 2 weeks later0 -
Will what I would do is contact ebay and tell them all that has happened so far before the buyer contacts them.
Make sure you tell them exactly as you have mentioned above and hopefully you still have all the emails to and from the buyer as proof.
To be ohnest, If the buyer had stated the laptop wasnt working in his first email to you then fair enough I would have thought it would have been fair to refund him.
But as you have said, he came strait back saying all is well and has now been 2 weeks.
For all you know he could have dropped the machine or accidently damaged it or even thought its not what he wants and damaged it deliberatly so that he can send it back and get his money back.
You could just say to him that if the machine had not worked from begining and he had contacted you soon as recieving it and stated this then you would have taken it back, but as its now been 2 weeks, you are not willing to accept it back.
But make sure you contact ebay and paypal and tell them both what has happened, also mention as per the above poster pasted, in the buyers feedback he has had a similar encounter, whereby the seller states the buyer probably damaged the goods.
Any way, hope this helps abit...

I agree with bbaby. I would NOT offer to refund this buyer - I think he is trying to pull a fast one with you. I think it's a strange one though...he's previously bought a motherboard (so presumably he knows a fair bit about computers if he knows about fitting one etc) and yet he didn't realize the problem with the laptop was due to the battery not being in correctly? Sorry, doesn't ring true with me. I hope you have the email he sent saying all was ok?
If this were me, even with 100% feedback I would tell him to go take a hike - he's had more than enough time IMO:jDebt-Free Wannabe by December 2008 :jJan 2008 Grocery Challenge [strike]£400[/strike] £297.40Feb 2008 Grocery Challenge [strike]£320[/strike]£2008 for 2008 Member Number 411 _party_£50 won0 -

The Adaptor he bought for it does NOT state it is suitable for an Acer 2200 laptop, rather the 220 series. I am not sure these are the same thing.
Not got time to look into this but it may be worth it for you if he has bought an incorrect adaptor for it.0
