Ongoing unauthorised energy switches caused by third-party comparison site

Hi all, 

I'm reaching out as a customer who has experienced repeated unauthorised energy account closures, loss of supply, and potential misuse of personal data caused by a third-party switching site called Switchcraft.

Despite never signing up with them, my British Gas account has been closed multiple times since 2023, including as recently as July 2025. Each time I’ve had to chase my supplier to prevent a switch I never requested. Most recently I confirmed to BG on the phone just a few weeks ago that I was not switching! My account has been closed and moved to Eon anyway. The first closure was Outfox The Market (most reviews pertain to this company too). I have had no communication since the call and text few weeks ago from BG, none at all from Eon. 

I found out a previous tenant’s details were used by Switchcraft, but it is just my address. OTM have confirmed I wasn’t on file but no other details can be shared due to GDPR, yet somehow I’ve still had my account affected around 6/7 times that I can recall.

After digging into reviews, I’ve discovered others have reported similar unauthorised switches by Switchcraft going back years!! I’ve raised the matter with British Gas, and I am waiting to raise with the ICO (have not had a response from Switchcraft so cannot raise a complaint yet). It seems these switching sites are slipping through the cracks. I currently don't have any energy provider and BG want my final bill settled in 3 days time... sick of this happening now! Especially seeing reviews going back so far. Not sure how they have kept on like this for so long?

I'm posting here to raise awareness of a wider issue. Has anyone experienced similar?

    Tell BG to get your supply back because of the erroneous transfer. They do it all the time so know what to do.
