The other huge advantage with Avios flights is the flexibility, in that you can cancel them right up to 24 hours before with only a £35 fee.

I use them with a 2-1 voucher and we did a safari in S Africa last year and flew Club World to S Africa for 90,000 per person return. 

Long haul, business class is the sweet spot for Avios.

The sweetest spot is also last minute bookings where cash tickets have spiked but avios remain flat but chances of finding avios tickets are lower. Whilst not many will need such a flight and of those that do only some will find one available its ultimately them that get the best theoretical return on their Avios points
