My sons iPad screen got smashed this Evening and so I go onto my very protect and repair policy and it says the policy expires today 4/08/2025. When I click the link to make a claim, it says it expired and I can’t go any further. The policy says it’s insured 05/08/23-04/08/23. Should I still be insured today?
This all happened after the phone line closed. I have emailed the financial ombudsman with the details in an attempt to lodge a claim.

Usually insurance polices have a precise date/time when they start/finish, such as xx/xx/xx @ 0001. Check the T&C's?

You need to check your dates/times!

Contacting the ombudsman first is quite frankly ridiculous.

My dates and times were correct, the policy expired at midnight last night. However the online claim form said it had already expired yesterday evening when I tried to lodge a claim.

I emailed the ombudsman as I wanted evidence that the device had broken within the policy dates and the insurer and Very, who I purchased the policy from have no email contact details.
I would’ve preferred to email them of course.

The online claim form which should’ve worked last night as the policy was still live wouldn’t as it said the policy had expired and the phone lines were closed when the damage happened.

I’ve spoken with the insurer this morning and they are going to honour the repair/replacement as it happened yesterday and within the policy dates.

So, contacting the ombudsman was unnecessary.

Howver, the ombudsman will only deal with a case once you have exhausted the company’s complaints policy.

They would just reject your letter.
