I purchased a Google Pixel 8 1.5 years ago from an approved retailer (o2) and fully updated. The screen has recently started going fully or partially green and flickering, to the point you can't see whats on screen.

It seems this is a widespread issue with many others experiencing the same, suggesting its an inherent issue with Google's hardware/software. It seems Google also acknowledge this to an extent, with the below statement when I go through their Repair Request web pages:

Extended repair programme for Pixel 8
Google has determined that a limited number of Pixel 8 devices may experience display related vertical line and flickering issues. Google is offering an extended repair programme to provide support coverage for affected Pixel 8 devices for three years after the date of original retail purchase.
Your Pixel 8 device may be eligible for this extended repair programme, if it:
  • Exhibits a vertical line running from the bottom of the display to the top or a display flicker and:
  • Has a device identifier like IMEI or serial number determined by Google or an authorised repair partner, as qualifying for this programme
...
About the repair programme
  • Contact support at your point of purchase.
Upon receipt, they'll inspect your phone before starting the repair to verify that it's eligible for this programme. The repair programme provides one free display replacement for eligible Pixel 8 devices.
Important: If your Pixel 8 display or coverglass has been cracked or the device exhibits other forms of damage, like liquid intrusion, it may not qualify for this programme. If your phone isn't eligible for repair through the extended repair programme or if it has out-of-warranty damage, then there may be a fee to repair your phone.
...
Any repair under this extended repair programme is warranted for 90 days. The programme doesn't extend the standard warranty coverage of your Pixel 8.

I'm trying to figure out whether its best to utilise the above repair option or to pursue the retailer (O2). Reason being Google's offer is stated as a one time repair, but others have indicated the problem reappeared and I don't want to give up any consumer rights if the repair doesn't work.

While its over the 6 months meaning I'd have to prove the fault, I'm within 2 years of purchase. I have pictures of the green screen / screen flickering plus I can show Google's statement abovee that the issue is affecting "a limited number of Pixel devices" - not sure if that's enough to prove its an inherent issue to exercise consumer rights against O2.

Or would there be no impact on a potential claim against O2 even if I took Google's offer of a free repair?
