A friend of mine wants to buy a WiFi phone so she can talk to her friend in Australia using Skype or MSN. As well as talking on the phone she also wants to be able to use it to send instant messages through MSN ie typing her messages out on the phones keypad. Does anyone know if these phones are available?

you can't do instant messaging on skype wi-fi phones. they are also quite expensive and feel very cheap in the hand.
your friend would be best off with a skypephone from 3 - you can call and IM on these as well as make normal calls.
on a monthly contract, skype is free to use. on PAYG, the phone costs £49.99 and you need to top-up £10 per month to activate the skype service.
note that you cannot use MSN on the wi fi phones. you can use MSN instant messaging on the skypephone.0
