Third Party Payment to Next

Options
Hi I made a TPP to NEXT via my online banking. The payment was authorised by my Bank however was declined by NEXT. The money has been debited from my bank account but has not reached NEXT. I have had no joy in getting my money back from either NEXT or my bank. Would welcome any advice on next steps! Many thanks

Was this a payment that should have had a reference number on it for say settling an account balance but it didnt?

It was for my NEXT account - I was not asked for a reference when making the payment.

If you don't give them a reference then how are they going to know whose account it's for?

    From their website:

"Telephone / Internet Banking payments will take 3 working days to be applied to your account.

You can also make a payment to Next from your bank account using the following details:

    Account Name: NEXT PLC

    Bank Account Number: 48917958

    Sort Code: 60-00-01

    Reference: Your Customer Number

Your customer number can be found on top of your Next statement, delivery note or any correspondence received from Next.

On most online banking services you will already find Next has been set up as a payee. Please ensure you quote your customer number."

So that's going to be the problem - as user1977 points out there's no way of them knowing the payment allocation without it.

I suspect the payment wasn't rejected by NEXT, I suspect its in the account but un-allocated. Which means you will need to find someone at NEXT to reallocate the funds to your account. I don't think this is a 'your' bank issue as they haven't done anything wrong.
