Photo of serial number?

Options
I'm listing an electronic item on Ebay - should I include a photo of the serial number in the listing?  I have read conflicting advice about this.  Thank you.

Depends what it is... personally wouldnt but may consider sending it to individual buyers if they ask.

The obvious problem is that if it's an item thats often faked you will be sharing a legitimate serial number which people can then add to knock offs. If the manufacturers has some form of "serial number checker" they may flag your serial number as suspect when they start getting large numbers of searches from different people on the same serial.

If the item has reasonable value, what I tend to do is to show the item's view that has the serial number, but use 'MS Paint' or similar to obliterate half of it. That way the number is concealed, but the buyer knows that you have the serial number recorded.
If the serial number is not on view in an obvious way, then I wouldn't bother mentioning it, but would definitely record it in a pic.
I've never actually had any scam attempt, but it might help guard against someone trying to return their broken version of the same item.
