Flea treatment for home...

Options
For some reason the Frontline on the dogs failed and we started getting eaten a few weeks back... first time in many years.  I still had a partially used can of Staykil under the sink which must be getting on for 10yrs old, but didn't have enough to do the whole house - 3wks later the fleas are back.  Looks like Staykil is no longer available, so wondered if anyone could recommend a decent alternative?

I'm sure the vets will sell an equal product, but they've already rushed me for £200 worth of Bravecto to do what the Frontline failed to do on this occasion, so was hoping to bypass them on this occasion.

Cheers.

Can't help on the house elimination, but it's fairly well established that fipronil, the active ingredient in Frontline has been a poor flea treatment for some time. I stopped using it on my cats over 15 years ago, after watching a flea crawling up his face whilst he was sat on MIL's lap (she didn't notice fortunately, and was not a cat lover). Whatever you swap to, check it's not based on fipronil.

ETA I think we used Indorex on the one occasion we needed to treat the house, but that was a long time ago.

My sympathies, fleas are a nightmare to get rid of.  We had an infestation a few years ago and it took months to fully see them off.

We used “bombs” where you need to close windows/doors and leave the property once set off and a couple of cans of indorex to fully clear them
and get under where the “bombs” couldn’t reach.  Especially skirtings, under beds etc.

Had to repeat multiple times as it never fully worked first time.  Along with hot washing all bedding and soft furnishings.  Didn’t help that myself and my daughter were diagnosed with a flea allergy 😖 I even ripped up my hall carpet in exacerbation!

I’ll be watching this thread with interest, I tried everything from cheap to expensive treatments before the double method (bombs & spray) seemed to work. I really hope you find a solution that works for you.
  • I buy flea and worm treatments from here, they often have good offers.

We have used R.I.P. Fleas Extra Spray and Johnson's 4Fleas Spray successfully.

We used indorex spray around all the carpets edges with the skirting boards. Thorough hoover before this, wash all softs furnishings and corners around beds and sofas. Tried to do as much in one go to eliminate them all.
Also manually combing the pets to capture the live fleas too.

We too found frontline stopped working, so swapped to advantage.
The next time it happend we realised our cat was heavier than the dose size i was buying....

To get rid of them basically every day you need to vacuum, i also sprayed flea treatments around.
All soft furnishings that could be were washed were along with all bedding.
It took a good few weeks to get rid of them.
